What is the output of the stock alternator on a 1987 F36?

Thanks

Many alternators have a potentiometer that you can adjust between 13.8 for gel cells in hot climates to 14.3 for " normal " batteries in cooler climates. Many are set at 14.1 volts as standard.bkl3666 <bkl3666@…> wrote:

If you’re running a Yanmar 3GM30F, the output of the stock alternator is “rated” at 55 amps.Under a maximun charging situation you will actually get no more than 40 to 42 amps max, if that. This exacerbated by the “dumb” stock voltage regulator creates a less than desireable charging profile. A good solution is to replace the stock regulator with one of the new “smart” three stage units (which is a bit of a pain), or to go out and buy a Balmar 80 amp alternator that comes with a smart charger. Balmar makes one that pretty much plugs into the space left by the old alternator. If you go this route, you’ll be amazed with the reduced recovery time when charging under power.
