Hey All-
I have a Mull 28 that has the beefy gun-mount pulpit but no spinnaker
gear. The boat does not perform that well in light air so I was
thinking of an asymmetrical chute for it.
Has anyone ever attached an asymmetrical chute to the pulpit on these
boats? I was thinking of fastening some sort of padeye or similar to
the pulpit using the mounting hole for the gunmount gear.
Also, are runners needed? I don’t think so given the small size of
the chute.
Thanks for any thoughts.

Chris, it sounds like you could rig something for an asym like that.
you could also have a ‘gennaker’ made with a pennant that attaches
at the base of the forestay, completely outside the pulpit.
Different riggers are going to give you different opinions about
running backs, but even a small asym is going to give you pretty
good loading if the breeze kicks up. Glory, a Freedom 45, has
running backs to help her deal with her gennaker and oversized jib
(although I think the primary use of a running backstay with the jib
is to help maintain jibstay tension). This is probably an area where
you want to work with a rigger experienced in working with free-
standing rigs.
