Wind was fluctuating between 15 and 22 knots. The 40/40 is so darn easy to sail … i had a little tide at my back but still…such a fast and comfortable boat
That’s fast. When I’m cruising in the 44 cat, i got like 8.3 and most 7.5±.
Edit: the tide…explains it.
We were mostly going around 6.5 to 7.5 knots to weather. Off the wind we were hanging around 8.
Great stuff… I’m amazed that I can get 6.5 on the wind out of my little F21 and 8.5 on a broad reach (both with and without spinnaker), given enough wind. Mind you I have also got my 14’ Supernova up to 12 knts.
I love sailing
I just hope I can sail for a few more years.
Somewhere off Block?
Yes ! That sail was from point judith to great salt pond and back. We are out at the salt pond now… came roaring through the cut doing 8.5 knots yesterday… a grand entrwnce ![]()
I thought id just comment about gybing the 40/40 with its massive mainsail. Rather than sheeting in the main all the way to let the boom “whomp” over, i have just been rounding up and tacking then falling off. Its absolutely lazy mans sailing but no one has to lift a finger.
Anyone else do this?
When solo sailing, yes. Also in stronger winds. Not lazy just safe.
