Battery purchase

Questions about batteries:

Has anyone found good prices on AGM or gel batteries, where?
I’m thinking of using and 8D in place of the two 31’s in my F-36. They are a little too wide so I would have to make the space about an inch deeper under the nav station. Has anyone else done this?
I’ve had good luck with Rolls batteries in the past and they now have special caps that may reduce the gassing durring charging (by recombineing it somehow). Has anyone used these in the under nav station location?

The cheapest source for optima spiral cell
AGMs I’ve found is: www.1st-optima-batteries.com
I believe they also ship free. I’m not sure what the
advantage/disadvantage of these versus more common AGMs like Lifelines are. I
haven’t compared dimensions, weight etc and don’t know much about
longevity.

Alan:

I’m no battery expert, but here’s what I know: spiral cells are much more tolerant of charging voltage differences than the Lifelines or any other non-spiral type. The other big difference is that Optima does not make a spiral cell that has near the amp hour capacity of some of the Lifeline batteries.

You may want to look at the Fullriver line of AGM
batteries. Made in China
unfortunately but the specs look good and they have a warranty. The Northstar
batter line (made in USA)
also looks very promising and you will be surprised at the size configuration
of these batteries. I am in the process of replacing all the batteries (and
adding a converter) on my F36 and am leaning towards the Northstar since I can
pack more amp hours into the given space.
