Battery Switch

Hello

What is the normal set up with the battery switch?
Is position 1 the house bank and 2 the engine start ?

Many thanks

Take your pick. Just label it.

Well it can depend on how many batteries are in each bank (and what kind they are). I have one flooded lead acid in my engine start bank (#2 on my boat) and 2 AGMs in my house bank (#1 on my boat). But yours may be different.

Try googling boat perko switch wiring and pick your schematic…may be helpful

It is common in the industry for House Bank to be Bank 1 and Engine Bank to be Bank 2. But I have had boats wired the other way and it makes no difference electrically. As I said above, it depends on how you have your banks set up. If both your banks are identical it doesn’t matter at all which is which.
On my F40/40 I have two battery switches, which is really nice. The one on the Engine (starter) circuit can always be left set to Bank 2. The one on House loads can always be set to Bank 1. The only time to change them is when there is a special need.
