Bimini for Freedom 33

I’m the process of buying a 1982 freedom 33 cat ketch. Anyone know if u can put a Bimini on one or where you would find one?
I’m very excited to have found and joined this group.
Thanks Y’all

Hello Guero,

Welcome on board.
Because of the sheet for the mizzen, it is hard to have a Bimini on an F33CK, unless you position the frame well forward of the mizzen traveler.
Where will you be sailing your new boat.

Happy sailing,

Jim D.

Hi Jim,

Thank you for replying. It’s a two part boat in terms of use. For now it’ll be a live aboard part time where I’ll stay when working on the coast. Within the next two years I plan to learn the boat and how to sail her in galveston bay area. Within 2 years I’m hoping to retire and plan on spending 2-3 months every winter in the Caribbean.
If all goes as planned I’ll be day sailing her periodically the rest of the year off the west coast of Florida. So multi use multi locations in this boats future

Jim brings up a very valid point regarding the mizzen sheet. I have the same boat and have been pondering ideas on this exact thing. I have gone as far as considering an aluminum 1-1/2 pipe arch-structure and moving my traveler up top. Still pondering… :sunglasses:

I see a F36 with the same idea I have. Pondering may become a creation.

Does it look like a “German Mizzen Sheet” set-up. Wish the folded bimini was not in the way. But yea pondering this idea more… :stuck_out_tongue:

I also have a 33 C-K . My bimini covers the area extending from the cabin hatch to 2’ from the stern. That 2’ is covered by a piece of canvas that zips to the rear of the Bimini. At its rear there is a pocket which contains a SS pole which is attached to the rear of the Mizzen. Its ends are attached to the stren rail which holds it level. The forward edge of the Bimini is attached to 3 clear plexiglass sheets extending from the deck just forward of the hatch to the top front edge of the Bimini. Obviously we don’t use this extension when sailing using the Mizzen. This setup does afford us good protection,

Did u have a bimini custom made or is there one for that boat? I’ve never added a bimini to a boat. This guy seemed to pull it off.

Do you have a picture of the biminiin place?

Have a 1982 Freedom 33 cat catch hull number 38. I have the Bimini and the Dodger, both have stainless steel frames. The material and isinglass should be replaced. I live in Florida on the East Coast near Sebastian Inlet. The vessel is presently in the yard being restored, 90% sure we will be building a Hard dodger, afterwards there will be no need for me to hang on to those items.

I’m on the west coast in Venice. My boat is in galveston but I’m going there this week to do an inventory on getting it up to speed. Do u happen to have a picture of ur boat with the Bimini in place? I’m just still trying to wrap my head around how it fits in relation to the mizzen traveler and other structures.
Good to know there is someone close with the same boat. I’m hoping to bring mine over in November.
Smh pics of the dodger and traveler would be helpful even if not on the boat too.
Thank you for reaching out

Thank you for the pics. More or less what is the clearance between the boom and the top of the bimini?
