bleeding air from fuel line on 1GM

Posted by fgljff (fgljff@…>)

I sent away for an owners manual for my 1GM, but they sent me one for the 1GM10.
So I’m
not sure if the procedure (and locations of things) is the same. Anyway, I want
to replace the
fuel filter, but I don’t know how to bleed the air. Does anyone know the
procedure for this on
a 1GM?

I believe the procedure is the same for the 1GM as 1GM. The air
bleeder screw is a 10mm bolt with Phillips head.

OK, so let’s see if I have this right. I begin by opening the bleed screw on the
secondary
filter, and working the little lever under the lift pump. Then I move on to the
injection
pump (although I’m not sure which screws to loosen on the injection pump or
where they
are). But do I have to crank the engine at all?

I have a service manual for the GM series
including the 1gm.
If you have a fax number I could copy and
fax you the pages.
I have a 3GM. Not sure how the 1GM is configured.

On my 3GM there is the lift pump, then the
fuel filter, then the injector. You can use the lift pump manually on the 3gm
and then crank the engine for the part at the injector.

When you say crank the engine, do you mean actually start it up?

You can either hand crank or use the
starter but it doesn’t need to start and often won’t with air in
the lines. I usually flip the decompression valve.
