buying a spinnaker

Posted by Doug (dougie131313@…>)

Does anyone know of a good sail maker that sells F21 spinnakers and
about how much do they run so I can look at saving enough money to buy
one.

I recently got a quote from North Sails (http://www.northsails.com/) of $600 (Canadian funds) for a spinnaker with three colour choices and the boat #. They actually call their product which is the same dimensions as a spinnaker a ‘gennaker’.

My recommendation is Somerset Sails. They have very competitive
pricing and excellent quality. They also repair sails and results are
impressive.

Contact Martin at Somerset Sails http://www.somersetsails.com/.

A few years ago I purchased one fro Haarstick sailmakers in Rochester NY for $615.00. They made the orignal sails for Freeedom and our very familiar with measurements. I have also had them make sleeves and sail covers. “Sprit, Hull#8”

Be careful of a "Gennaker: Originally designed to be flown from a
forestay, like a Genny, it became a popular sail as a loose footed,
light air sail… 1.25 oz. As such, it has a straight luff, designed
to accept hanks. The Freedom spinaker is, however, symetrical, and
both sides are curved. Stick with the Haarstick!

Doug,

If you are interested, I have a spinnaker sail available since my F21
was totaled by hurricane IKE. I removed all the sails prior to the
storm and they are in good to very good condition. I have a photo if
you are interested. It is a red, white and blue spinnaker sail with
the spinnaker sleeve.

I have a good one that I’ll sell for $300.00, it’s been used very little. Two or three color, blue and yello and maybe white…I’m in Ccentral Illinois…Shipping included.

Steve,

Sorry to hear about your boat, I am interested in your spinnaker. How old is it and pictures would be great.

Hammer,

Can you send me a picture of it, the price sounds about right. I’m currently deployed to South America right now so it might be a little while before I can buy it. Hopefully the Army will let me go home at the end of the month.
