In the relatively brief time in which I’ve been a member of this
group, I’ve noticed that there have been a number of questions about
the CamberSpar rig. Several of us seem to have inherited the
original owners manuals for our boats, but there was no information
about the CamberSpar rig. One member of this list kindly sent me
copies of what he had. I also called David Bierig, who invented the
rig, and he sent me a drawing and a brochure. I have scanned and
posted all of these documents in the Files section of this group
home page under “CamberSpar Information.” (While I know the
documents are there, because I tested it, I make no guarantees that
they will print easily; I had trouble sizing them properly.)
David Bierig is still in the sailmaking business, but I gather he
does not make many CamberSpar rigs any more. He told me that he
intended for the rig on the Freedom to have three full length
battens, rather than the partial battens it has. He also told me
that he had designed a downhaul so that one could easily lower and
secure the jib from the cockpit, but that it was not a commercial
success.
If the documents I’ve posted don’t answer your questions, you should
feel free to call Mr. Bierig. I found him quite pleasnt and willing
to chat.
