Carbon mast2

Since a few weeks, the inside of the mast is hearing a cracking sounds, like there is tension in it. I can’t find any cracks and it looks like inside somewhere.
Any good tips?
And is it possible to get the mast of? Any tips for that?

Are you sure it’s cracking and not friction?

Well, since we sailled all day, its only when the boat is going bow-rear in waves. And yes it’s a friction sound. I was already looking for a drawing of how it’s assembled, didn’t found it jet.

My bet is this is mast base moving very slightly. However this “mast jitter” sound many of us have experienced is more like a hammer striking the mast and creating a sort of banging sound which is remarkably loud. It does not sound like cracking or crunching.

On my boat this often occurs while sailing deep in heavier wind and seaway. The mast base movement is very slight but one would think tectonic plates given the noise it makes.

I went sailing for the first time in 15 years this summer. There is a rubbing noise coming from the rear mast that accompanies the boat’s movement in the waves as it heels over. It seems to be coming from the roof passageway. I’m not too worried, though, because I think I’ve repositioned the mast as best I can.

Now all in light weather there is no sound at all.

Have you resolved the problem or are you just commenting the noise is not present in light air?

Hi, Thanks for the message. Well only in heavier see State the noise is a bit there. Maybe there is some lose bolt inside. Dont know. Its almost winter then I have time to fix things…so maybe later that i find its.

Jeroen,

as goofy as it may sound (no pun intended) it would be fantastic if you could set up a smartphone or some such and actually record the noise it is making. Post here and those of us who have had mast noise issues, and there are several here, could, perhaps, help by advising this is what we have heard with mast movement… or not.
