My Freedom 28 cat ketch doesn’t draw much and is fairly wide. I have seen a photo of a Freedom 33? in England with a side strut dried out. Some one has done it.
I vave been watching videos of a bilge keeled boat sailor in England dry out in some great little harbors. Maine coastal cruising? Time for another bottom job…Lots of opportunity for things to go wrong, but sailors have done this for centuries.
Thoughts?
I have done it many times. The key is to pickup a quiet bay with no wakes and with shallow banks. It’s good to anchor in a deep spot of the bay and observe a low tide and exposed bottom. Pick the stop, relocate the boat into the spot on high tide, make sure it tilts toward higher ground on ongoing tide. Here is a pic from one of Cape Cod tributaries.
