Hello Lola,
I am a big fan of Garmin GPS plotters, I have used them since 1993 for
auto and boat use. There are a number of remanufactured units on offer
with a 1 year warranty at the moment. These are older Garmin models,
the GPSMAP 2006C and the GPSMAP 3010C but they are very good units. I
have the GPSMAP 2006C, in fact I sold my first unit with a boat several
years ago and have just bought a remanuafactered unit for my new
Freedom.
Here’s where thay can be found:
GPSMAP 3010C at $999.00

GPAMAP 2006C at $640.00

Bob:
I bought a Garmin 2006C on Ebay 2 years ago. I could install it on my present
boat, but its size would rewuire some modification of the fiberglass. So I’m
hollding in reserve for when I buy my Freedom.
Strangely enough, nobody has ever heard of this unit. I was looking for the mao
cards for it. At several West Marine stores I viisted, sales staff had to look
it up in their Garmin documentation to see what it was.
Mine came with no end connectors, just a bunch of colored wires. That should be
interestiing when I do go to install it.
I also have a Garmin 76 Map monochrome and an old Garmiin 120XL non-charting
GPS.
And bought a Garmin 200W for my wife’s car.
Other brands - such as Lowrance, Magellan, etc. – are good, but Garmins are
like the world standard.
When do you take delivery of your new boat? You need help installing the new
engine? I know of a good (but not cheap) mechanic in Arapahoe.

Steve,
Map charts for the Garmin GPSMAP series are widely available and are
known a Bluechart. You can either buy blank cards and burn your own
from the Garmin Mapsource Bluechart CDROM that is updated regularly
or you can get the pre-programmed cards. I personally prefer the
CDROM route as then the Mapsource main program is on a PC or Laptop
computer and you can save your waypoint, pre-program routes etc. I
use this same program for my car GPS but with Garmins City Navigator
maps.
Best Regards
