Many of us have been using the Milwaukee 18 volt right angle drill to
raise sails and in my case I have my wife use it to winch me up the
mast when necessary. The $80 battery of which I have two have only
lasted two years and even when new were only good for two/three hoists
of my 39 Express sails.
I have found a solution to the battery issues. I purchased a DC to DC
converter from www.powerstream.com which takes the house bank voltage
and increases to to 18V. The converter which cost $140 is hard wired
into the boat and has it’s own internal 25Amp fuse. From the
converter I have a 10 gauge 10’ line rigged into a battery case which
I have removed the actual battery from. The case with attached power
cord then is attached to the drill as always thus eliminating all the
problems with batteries.
