Has anyone tried to sail with the cruising chute in a sock, and raised, having to only raise the sock when turning downwind?
This would be analogous to some of the newer boats with double headstays, one for the self tacking jib, and one for a off-wind genoa.
I’ve been thinking about a code-0 on a flexible furler. As part of the thread, Hans brought up an interesting idea - attaching the tack to the top of the bow pulpit where the gun mount spinnaker tube would be fitted if one were used. Interesting approach to having it fly free of the bow pulpit and lifelines. I hate going to a pitching foredeck to gather up a sail or pull down a snuffer sock - so furling seems very appealing. Thought of rolling up the sail for jibing (rather than bringing it around full) is also compelling.
