CT RI Coastal Vacation Trip

Posted by lioneldmp7 (doug.payne@…>)

Fellow Freedom Owners on the East Coast:

My wife and I are planning a visit to the CT and RI coastal areas in
in conjuction with visiting my son who is doing an internship in NYC
at Merrill Lynch this summer. We are Arizona and California sailors
and sail our F28 near Phoenix and we often charter a F32 out of
Marina Del Ray. We are looking to experience the coastal areas and
sailing harbors in CT and RI and would appreciate some advise on a
sailing oriented itineray to see this beautiful part of the country .
We may even look at some larger Freedoms while we are out there! We
plan to hit Essex, Mystic, Stongington, Warrick, Bristol and spend
the most time in Newport. We will be traveling through the area next
Tuesday through Friday, June 14-17. So, how about some ideas on:

  1. Bed and Breakfasts in these towns (other than Newport where a
friend is getting us a room at the New York Yacht Club facility there)
  2. Great seafood restaurants
  3. Museums and other nautical points of interest
  4. Day sail type harbor or coastal cruises as we might get out on the
water one half day. We don’t plan to charter for a day.
  5. Any other ideas for fun things to do Nautical or historically
    related.

We have read the tour guides, but would appreciate your local
knowledge. Thanks so much in advance for your input!

Do not miss the Griswold Inn in Essex Conn. Also the Herreshoff
Museum in Bristol. If you want to talk Freedoms, there is Paul
Dennis , Warren River Boat works in Warren RI. Of course there is
always the Mystic Seaport.

Herreshoff museum in Bristol ri, there is a new hotel on the water close to
there who’s name escapes me, but you might find interesting. Contact me off the
board for a possible day sail on my Freedom 38 located in Warren (I don’t work
during the week and may be free)
