With Ebay being so popular clueless amatuers bid a lot of boats way
beyond their value. Most don’t realize what they’re getting
themselves into.

This particular 33 will need a ton of work. I know of a 39 that went
up on a reef and bounced around. The guy that restored it had to
reskin large areas of the hull. Once that balsa is wet across a large
area it’s major work. The 39 had the advantage of no water getting
inside. Still the insurance company wrote it off.

Here’s bad news from the listing: “Vessel was submerged, galley
equipment, electrical systems, wiring and fuel tank were compromised.
2 cylinder Yanmar diesel was submerged, poor condition. Interior
woodwork and cushions are water damaged. There is about 1 foot of
accumulated rain water inside cabin.”

It’s been a while since the hurricane. Engine and tranny could be a
total loss. Major rewiring needed. Interior cushion with new foam
will be upwards of 3 grand. Redoing woodwork will be mostly time. New
stove is over a grand if the old one can’t be saved. Fuel tank should
be OK. Boat will likely have to be moved which will cost thousands
unless it’s somewhere close by.

When it comes time to resell the damage history will reduce the value
unless it’s not disclosed which is unethical and immoral.

You can buy a ready to sail F-33 in the $30’s-40’s. Unless you own a
boatyard this is a waste unless they give it to you for free and even
then I’m not so sure.

Copy the first line, then the second line

two lines is causing a problem.

The link is actually 2 lines in the original posting. You need to copy both
lines of the URL to your browser. When you use both lines of the URL, it will
take you to the ebay auction site, or at least it took me there yesterday. It’s
possible they closed the auction.

I certainly agree with your prognosis. It could be worth the purchase for parts though. Particularly if the masts are undamaged the masts could be worthwhile in the future and would cost quite a bit more to have made new. Alan

If you have the need for the parts it might make sense. Remember once
it’s stripped to factor in disposal costs.
