I don’t know the name of the person who owns the “daydream,” but this
message is for you. Where did you get the hoist shown in your photos?
Did you make it? If so, let me know the construction details, please.
I’m taking my boat to a lake where there is no hoist.
Thanks

Hi Allen,
I posted a file on the freedom21 website giving full details of how to make-up the sheer legs for hoisting the mast in & out of the Freedom 21. This article has sketches & photos together with all key dimensions to enable you to make-up your own set of sheer legs. As I said in my article its a very simple process but a bit tense on the first occasion. You lucky F21 owners in the USA have a CF mast which is probably around 40lb weight? whereas the UK F21’s have an aluminium alloy mast which weighs around 85lb so more muscle is needed over here. The only exciting aspect of this is trying to hoist the mast on a breezy day - my advice is to wait for a relatively calm day.
Best regards,
Wilf Bishop F21 Daydream

Thank you, Wilf. My confusion was over the “look” of the hoist on
your photos compaired to the article, sketches and photos. The hoist
on the boat in the photos section looks like black metal tubes. The
photos in your sketches clearly shows them to be wooden 2x4’s.
Thanks again.
You are correct that the CF mast is less weight. I don’t know about
40 lbs, but it isn’t so heavy that a couple of guys (or three) can’t
lift it.
Allen

Hi Allen,
Apologies - the photo I used in my brief write-up was borrowed from another UK Freedom 21 owner & certainly the appearance of the sheer legs does confuse matters. I lifted the mast out today as its the end of the sailing season here in the UK and it was very easy. By the way as a one-time stress engineer I checked the buckling of slightly bowed wooden 2x4’s and buckling does not start until the load is about 6 times that involved in lifting a UK aluminium mast so safety margins are built in a plenty.
Best regards
Wilf Bishop
