decoding Hull Identification Number, what year is my boat?

Hi,

We are in the process of buying a Freedom 39 Deck Salon (same as pilot house, but lacking the aft head and inside steering station). The hull ID has been painted over and is hard to read, but the CG documentation indicates it is TPS39027M82K. Hull number is #27. There is some latitude in interpreting the year and month, I believe this number indicates the keel was laid in June of 1982. Can someone with a hull number near “27” confirm that this is correct? Is this boat considered to be a 1983 model year?

Thanks

Hi -

Do a search for HIN number and you will find some info.

I think your HIN # signifies: a Freedom 39, hull # 27, built in November of 1982.

Prior to 1984, the date code (M82K) started with A being August of the previous year. So K would be June 1982.
Does that make this boat a 1982 or a 1983 model year?

Attached is excerpted from ABYC T-10; the M82K indicates a 1982 model year, molded in June of 1981.
