Has anyone installed a depth finder on their F21? I am trying to
install one but there is no location inside the cabin hull that would
pick up a signal.
I do get a signal if I mount it on the transom. Any suggestions?

My 21 has a thru-hull sounder installed, but I haven’t looked at its configuration. On my Moore 24, I built a small cup for the sounder to sit in on the inside of the hull , filled it with mineral oil and then mounted the sounder in the mineral oil. The sounder was a raymarine model and the transducer was specifically designed for in hull mounting. If I remember correctly, the the angle of the beam produced by the two transducers was different, so you may need to either mount yours thru hull or get a different transducer. When you are testing for signal are you coupling the transducer to the hull with a ziplock bag of water?GeorgeOn Apr 24, 2007, at 9:09 AM, Steve wrote:Hi everyone,Has anyone installed a depth finder on their F21? “Blue Merle” had a depth sounder along with a knotlog (speedometer).
The original instruments were Datamarine, but I replaced them with
Raymarine ST50 units in 1996.
The instruments were placed through the hull under the V-berth in the
area just forward of the bulkhead. As close to center line as
possible which was in the corner bordered by the bulkhead wall and the
low fiberglass cabin wall (with the moulded in groove) that encloses
the porta-potti.
Just leave youself sufficient room to install the instruments. I.e.,
not too tight to the walls.
Although the angle is not perfectly vertical (it almost never is on
any boat), it worked just fine for me.

I installed my thru hull transducer just aft of the mast. I just pored water in until in covered the transducer for testing and it worked fine. I then epoxied it for permanent install.
