Drilling in the CF Mast

Posted by Steve (lim@…>)

Hi everyone,

Has anyone in this group drilled into the CF mast? I am about to
install wiring for a new all round light and antenna and need to drill
into the mast.

Anything I should be watching out for?

Thanks

Don’t worry be happy.

Drill the hole the diameter of he core of your screws so only the
thread cuts. If the screw is too large it will chip the fiberglass and
make a bigger hole.

SS rivets are better as long as you keep the hole the minimal size and
the rivet long enough to expand on the other side of the mast wall.

Drilling into the CF mast is a piece of cake. I did it yesterday
after receiving mails from users in this group.

I taped the location where I needed the mounting and marked the
location for the drill holes. Started with a small bit and then
used the required size for the screws.

I also taped the inside, if you could reach it and estimated where
the dirll bit comes through, to have a cleaner cut.

Thanks for all the help.
