Engine zincs on F30 (again)

Posted by kollegewidgwock (kollegewidgwock@…>)

Hello all. I am a new owner of a Freedom 30 (Solitude). I’ve been
following the posts for awhile but I am still uncertain about whether
or not my 1987 Yanmar 2GM20F actually has a cylinder head and engine
block annode. The boat is now covered in Blue Hill for the winter so I
can’t inspect her right now.
Any help would be appreciated.

Don

Well aboard. That engine does not have a zinc.

Your engine is freshwater cooled (indicated by the “F” in the model number)
and, therefore, does not require the anode.

From the 2GM20 F Shop Manual and the 2GM20 F Parts List, there is no
cylinder Head/Engine Block anode. It exists on the raw water cooled
engines only. The converswion to Fresh water cooled 2GM20 “F”
requires its removal.
