Eye and hook for companionway stairs on a F-30

On my F-30 I have a hook and eye that holds the companionway stairs to the bulkhead. The hooks broke I replaced them from a marine hardware site. The new hooks don’t bend in at the end of the hook, the result being that with vibration from people using the stairs the hooks occasionally come undone, leading the stairs to come out from under you as you walk down. (I have the imprint of the engine pulleys on the back of my favorite shirt from cracking my back on them) I tried to bend one of the hook ends in and it broke. Looking for a source for better hooks or ideally another solution to this problem. Currently I have large zip ties on them but it’s a pain when I have to access the engine.
Thanks
Lee

The previous owner of my boat drilled small holes in the ends of the hooks and threaded split rings through them. Still a bit fiddly, but secure.

I found this online and thought these might be worth considering.
Best

Just because a hook and eye was there before doesn’t mean that it is the best choice.

From your description I would consider the Sea Dog Anti-Rattle Latch from Wholesale Marine of the Flexible T-handle Latches from Fisheries Supply.

Thank you guys, some great ideas here. I’m going to order a sea dog latch and see how robust it looks. Love having options!
