F 30 holding tank replacement

Posted by freedom3062 (aweeks@…>)

Does anyone know the manufacturer of the holding tank I believe was
used as original equipment? My boat is a 87. Thanks.

Did you ever get an answer to your question? Mine just started
leaking. Has anyone found any good replacement tanks that they
would recommend (or not recommend for that matter)? Do any of the
raritan semi custom tanks fit well? Thanks!

Ronco plastics, www.ronco-plastics.com, is a major supplier of
rotomolded poly tanks. Over 450 sizes and styles. excellent product,
price and service. I just installed one of their 30 gal.holding tanks
in my bow. If you want a true custom tank, try Duraweld Co.,www.dura-
weld.com, They will fabricate a welded poly tank to your
measurements. I am using them to fabricate a potable water tank to
utilize the remaining space in the bow.

My original tanks were Todd, with wall thicknesses that are way to thin for liquid use. When liquid sloshes from side to side with free surface, the mass moves and places what can be large forces on the tank walls. My Todd fresh water tank developed hairline cracks at flexure points that weeped water when the tank was about 3/4 full. When full, the water pressure closed the cracks (in the top of the baffles). At about 3/4 full to 1/4 full the cracks opened and weeping began. Ronco tanks in California has a large selection of stock tanks, one of which offered about 33 gal capacity with a 3/8" wall thickness. This left me about 15 gal shy of the original 50 some gallons. To make up the difference, I added a 15 gal Vetus bladder tank on the port side (opposite from the 33 gal tank). The odor from the lining of the Vetus tank rendered the water unuseable, even after numerous flushes and rinses complying with Vetus manual
directions to no avail. Vetus doesn’t respond to emails sent through their web page, never could contact them. After a year, and a trip down the US west coast (Puget Sound to southern California), the vetus tank was replaced with a Nauta tank of the same size. So far so good, no adverse taste or odor from the Nauta tank.

Another thumbs up for Ronco. Download their PDF catalog and wander through it. Found a perfect fit for our Freedom 28. Prices are about half what they list.
