Our rigger has suggested that we install a PVC pipe through the existing chain
locker to a
new chain locker under the V-berth to keep the all-chain rode away from the
mast and to
move the weight of the chain aft. I have no idea what is in the apparent void
under the
chain locker and where it may or may not be wise to cut.
Does anybody know how the area under the chain locker is built?
Has anybody tried this approach?
Thanks.

On my F-33 under the mast is a large hole for water to drain through. There is a thick vertical piece of fiberglass running fore and aft on the centerline as a support for the maststep. If yours is like mine don’t try and cut on the centerline. From looking down there with a flashlight I don’t see how the chain will run smoothly given the slope. I have 130 ’ of 5/16 chain, it runs freely from my windlass which is centerline forward of the mast partially on the spirt, and no hobbyhorsing.

I wouldn’t cut anything-it is the mast step, and needs to be strong .I have
covered the bury of my mast with scrapcanvas, held in place with nylon ties
to keep chain,etc off it.
