My 1981 F-33 transom (hull # 39 I think) is cored. When I took out the stern light you could see the balsa core.
By the way, what did you do about the chain locker issue. Did you put a plastic pipe into the v-berth? That sounds like a great idea if it is possible without compromising the mast support.

Thanks. For now I have decided to leave the chain locker as is. I just got too
wary of drilling holes without being certain I could do it with no compromise to
the mast support.
