F-33 VS. F-32???

Posted by screetaboat (screetaboat@…>)

Hello.
I am a novice and will be purchasing my first boat this summer. We (myself, my
wife,
and my 6 and 10 year old) will be moving to Puerto Rico on it. (crazy, I
know…but life
is short) The boat will be lived on at times (atleast 3 months of the year) and
will
likely be used as a source of income as well. I am taking ASA lessons but I know
noone with a boat. I plan to buy the boat, sail it in her locale for a month or
so to get
a feel for her, and then off to Puerto Rico.

We’re looking at Freedoms exclusively at this point. Paricularly, an F-33 (1982)
and an
F-32 (1985).

My questions to the experienced sailors on this board are…

  1. Which would be easier for a novice to handle alone?
  2. What are the differences in sailing characteristics (if any) in layman’s
    terms?
  3. Am I insane?

Thanks and ANY information, advice, etc. will be extremely appreciated.

I am not familier with those boats, but I imagine most issues will be personal
preference. IN the caribiean, ventilation is important.
You are not insane - but you will have a lot of work ahead of you focus
on safety and contingency planning. Sailing can be basically learned
in one week - but you spend your life refining and improving your skills.
Otherwise, keep the boat off the ground & the water out of the boat,
the rest will fall into place! {-;. - Andy Garte
