I have a stepping mast on my 21’ and it looks like something is loose at the stepping part. It is not that much play, but I can see it when the boat rocks. And last year some of the top coat chipped away at the bottom of the mast. I have seen somewhere on the net an F21’ with the same problem and the owner had affixed some sort of a metal tube where both parts of the mast meet. I don’t trailer the boat so the stepping function is not important to me. What I am planning to do is take the mast wedges out, wrap a tubular aluminum sheet ( they have them preshaped at home depot ) around the mast where the knee is so it covers both parts and tighten it with SS rings. Than put the wedges back ,silicone, etc. Any suggestions ? bad/good idea ? Brgds. Dmitry

I dont have a clue as to what you mean by a “knee”—My 1983 F21
(Daiquiri II) has a single carbon fiber spar, passing thru the hole
in the deck (partner) where it is stableized by a urethane collar,
and capped with a weather collar and secured by SS rings. At
the “Step” – bottom of the mast, it sits in a ring molded into the
fiberglass, and secured with a SS L shaped clip that bolts to the
starboard bulkhead. Nothing moves…
take a picture of your mast and have Max post it, and maybe we can
help!
