F25 bridge clearance.

Does anyone know the approximate mimimum number of feet of clearance
from a bridge bottom to the water, for safe passage of a round-mast F25
under the bridge? Thanks. Charlie

Take a large square sheet of card and fold it in half diagonally.
Hold it up so that one of the short sides is vertical and the other
short side is horizontal.
Now look along the long side (taping a milk shake straw to look through
may help).
Mast top below the sight line? Move back a little (hmm, watch out for
water…)
Mast top above the sight line? Move forward a little…
Mast top in the ‘telescope’? Great!
Get someone to tie a line around the mast and walk the other end towards
you.
The horizontal length of the line from the mast to your eye is approx
the height of the mast, give or take a bit.
Add say 10% for safety and you won’t be far wrong.

Hi,

“Scaramanga’s” ( round mast ) mast is 33ft from deck to truck. Allow another 3 feet to the LWL plus antenna height.
Wing mast is 1 foot shorter and the boom is1 foot shorter also.

I checked mine by running a non-stretchy line up the main halyard (to the deck) and using binoculars to get a swag on the rest of the way from the end of the loop to the tip of the antenna. Then measured the line and from the deck to the water.
Not too scientific but I haven’t ran my mast into a bridge yet!

Tape a 50’ tape measure to your main halyard, and measure the length
of mast above deck. Them measure from deck to mast step (inside).
This will approximate the height above water, which is the way bridge
clearance is expressed. Add any antennas at masthead to the
calculation. Herm

Shows you how much more efficient (the factory thought) the wing mast
was… Herm
