F25 Common Problems?

Posted by holderbrian (holderbrian@…>)

Hello,
I’m looking at F25s for my first boat. I like their selling points:
ease of sailing, nice layout, nice lines, unstayed mast…
I’d like to know about their weaknesses. There are three I’ve found on
the market. Two have wet soles. Where does the water come from and what
does repair consist of?
Thanks, Brian
also, Does anyone out there around the midwest ot Virginia have a
trailer available? Cheap?

Windows/Ports and hardware .

The deck is at high risk if you find water inside. The end-grain Balsa
core goes back past the windows in the top side, and both the plastic
ports and the plastic sheet windows can leak enough.

I just reseated all my fair leads for guiding the lines on the rooftop
(they started to leak) and not one of them had bad balsa when I reamed
the holes. This to me means that if there are any soft spots in the
deck, then you are looking at years of neglect and should consider
another boat. The inside of the cockpit was probably painted as it
seems like they had trouble with the gell-coat (at least on mine)
there should be no other paint on the boat except local repair.

There might have been a few blisters but it should not have been
necessary do anything but a local repair (a couple of inches).

Crazing in the hull gell-coat is from stress - from the boats getting
hit - they don’t seem to craze on their own.

others can add more…

Thanks for the tips on what to look for. I still have my eye on this
boat. I’m just trying to work out logistics to see it. Any other
recommendations?
Cheers,
Brian
