F25 mast bearing race

Posted by rjbrewton (roger@…>)

Has anyone removed the bearing race from the wing mast< Tell us how. I’m in
the process of doing a complete refit on my F25 . I’m photo documenting the
process and will post it on my website for a resource. Any info will be
appreciated.

Thanks

A friend did it a few years ago. He used diamond cut-off wheels in a Dremel
to cut it out. Try checking Rich Green’s posts in the archives.

I’m anticipating doing this project too. Looking forward to your photos.

All the best,

I completed the job this spring, was really grateful to Harv who sent me the model numbers thru this site; race is M201011, top seal is 15522, bearing is M201047 and bottom seal is CR18734 (or GR18734, sorry, can’t quite tell now). There is a schematic with these model numbers on it in a message from earlier this year, or i can send it to you. Rich Green’s detailed message was also really helpful. We wrestled with getting the bottom seal off the pin that the mast sits on, until we realized we could remove the platform that the pin is on by taking off the four bolts underneath that platform. Then used a dremel for cutting thru the bottom seal that was melded to the pin, as well as for cutting the race out of the bottom of the mast. We put the bearing parts together and packed really well with a water resistant grease before carefully tapping into the bottom of the mast, used a board as Rich recommended. The mast now spins like a top. We also replaced vhf cable and
wire while the mast was down, and painted the mast with a product called Endura. Highly recommend, two part extremely noxious paint you need a respirator to apply but is diamond hard and beautiful and looks sprayed even tho i used a foam brush and was quite meticulous, 2 coats with light sanding in between. Its apparently much cheaper than similar products too. Worst of it all was worrying about the mast as the boatyard guys pulled it with the travellift, but they treated it with kid gloves, we kept the boat in the water. Let me know if you need any more detail…hope it all goes well…
