Could someone please measure the approximate dimensions (length and height) of the 2 plywood/veneer side panels on the F28/30 CK centreboard trunk for me (not including the two end pieces, just the side panels)?
I’ve already taken the panels and the fibreglass top off, only to discover that it appears that one of the sheaves is missing so the line appears to be running over a bare pin. If I’m correct, that would explain why it’s so hard to raise the centreboard…
Anyway, as you know, there’s barely enough room to swing a cat in that cabin at the best of times and I want to store the side panels off the boat. Unfortunately, however, I forgot to measure them on my last visit, so don’t know what size vehicle I’ll need to remove them the next time I can get to my boat.
The first owner of my boat said he really appreciated the center board case in a seaway. Safer to move about the cabin… and helps with snorers on opposite side.
Hey, thanks for that I’m back working on the boat now and have discovered that one of the 2 sheaves bolted to the front of the inside of the centreboard case had self destructed (unless it was never there in the first place), leaving only the axle for the last bit of the pulley line to turn on. No wonder it was so hard to raise the centreboard…
PS I’m on the south coast at Ridge Wharf. Where are you based? I’m about to remove a tired Volvo Penta MD7A engine to replace it with a Beta 16 so if you need one for spares I’m happy to give it away (it still runs)
On my 2nd sail the center board jammed down with a wedge of sheave parts and I couldn’t enter the canal to my dock. We had to open the case and were able clear it to get home. Eleven years later dyneema replacement still functional.
I replaced the Volvo with a Yanmar 2ym15 after transmission failure and parts limitations. Beta was $4000 more and months away making my choice easy.
