Look at a F30 yesterday and noticed hairline cracks around the mast
just above and below the gooseneck. Any thoughts on why? Should I
be concerned? Thanks

I have talked with Carbon Fiber Mast manufacturers regarding this subject. I also contacted Freedom Yachts (what’s still left of that portion of the company!). They both seem to agree that these redial cracks are in the cosmetic coating on the mast that was applied at the time of manufacture. They both seem to concure that these cracks do not affect the structural integrity of the mast, but both recommended the mast be taken down, sanded, fair the cracks and then apply a marine paint or awlgrip. I just purchased a F-21 with the cracks running radially up and down the mast. I intend to have the mast worked on in a few months when its too hot to be out sailing in FL. I am also thinking of having it painted white to reflect the heat of the sun. Both sources said it something a good fiberglass person could perform…Hope this helps. Aside from my concerns of the mast, I find this boat to be a joy to sail and very good performer off the wind. edgemere69
