I have followed the correspondence about Gio Schouten’s “Samiel” sailplan. I did
see
one small photo on the bulletin board, some months ago, but it is no longer
available
(or any others, come to that). Could I ask you to pass the pictures on to me,
please?
We are just looking at replacing the main on “Castaway”, which is now a bit old
and
stretched, and anything which looks lighter seems like a good idea.
A friend locally has an F35 (UK) with the original pattern sails, which have no
battens
at all, and thus no roach. Coupled with a lack of mainsheet traveller, he has
poor
windward performance compared to the sails we have. However, light air sailing
to
windward with even the larger sails remains tedious, and the full battens ought
to
liven things up quite a lot.
