Has anyone bought and installed a hand-held remote control (from the
cockpit area) for an electric anchor windlass? I have the foot
controls at the bow but there are times when I want to be able to use
a hand-held remote control to raise/lower the anchor while stationed
at the helm. What did you buy? Web site address? Jim F>

Jim,
the F40 I just purchased has a remote. I’ll check out the specs on it
and post them in a day or so.

I installed one on my F32. Its a plain “Momentary On” / “Center
Off” / “Momentary On” 3-way toggle switch mounted in the fiberglass
right next to the engine controls. Pull it up and the anchor comes
up, push it down and the anchor goes down, let it go and it stops. I
really like it and use it often. You can get a “official” handheld
remote but this is just an ordinary $5 switch, a $3 waterproof
rubber boot and about $20 worth of wire.
Why not just a mounted switch? I’m not sure there’s any advantage to
having a control on the end of a wire in the cockpit, you probably
can’t see the anchor from there anyway.
If you want something that looks nicer, my handheld remote at the
bow is actually a powerboat trim tab switch. It’s waterproof, it
works fine and it’s even labeled “Up” and “Down.” It was about $30
at West.
