F36 sail removal

I’ve ordered new sails for my 1987 F36 sloop. In preparation for their delivery it’s about time to remove the old sails. The hank-on jib seems straight forward. Are there any tips/tricks for removal of the full batten main?

On my F25 most of the mast-track is pop-riveted on, but the bottom section is screwed on with machine screws and can be removed. Of course you need to disconnect the main at the gooseneck tack fitting and hoist the slides/cars up above the section you want to remove. I tied a loop around the sail bundle at the front and used the halyard (and winch) to lift the slides high enough up on the sail track to access the machine screws.

Hello Woody,
I have the same boat. First, remove the battens of course. If you have internal velcro closures make sure to separate the velcro with a piece of batten before you pull the tab release cord or it may jam. When you remove the battens do not let them slide against your bare hands because you might get fiberglass splinters! Use gloves or be very careful. Number and mark the direction of the battens if necessary.
Next you have to determine the type of sail slides that you have. If you have traditional sail slides that fit in a groove (original or tides marine track) the next step is easy. I would disconnect the clew and tack then remove the sail track stop and start flaking the sail on the portside cabin top with help from a friend. Fold/roll bag and you are done.
If you have a Harken track (this is what I have) DO NOT REMOVE THE SAIL STOP! (especially if you have non-captive ball bearings - I know this from personal experience!) You will need to disconnect the sail from the battcars before you remove the sail. To make it easy I place a block of wood between the car that I am disconnecting and the one above so I have room to work. Once all the battcars are disconnected I tie the sail bundle with three sail ties, disconnect the tack and clew and lift the sail off the boom with a friend fold/roll and bag.
Hope it Helps
