F40 CC masts and deck

Hi all,

I’m looking at one of these to buy as a liveaboard.

i have plenty of experience both sailing and maintenance after a long career in the charter industry.

The boat I’m looking at is definitely a project boat and needs some tlc to bring her back to her best.

I will no doubt have plenty of questions but the most pressing today are:

Mast paint. This is peeling off over large areas. Is this an immediate problem? The masts are aluminium and look as if they are anodised underneath the paint.

Masts again - they have a join about 1/3 to 1/2 way up. Is this standard?

Teak decks - the caulking has failed over large areas. As I understand it, there are no fastenings through the glass fibre decks underneath - the teak is simply bedded down. Water is bound to have gotten in under the teak - what would your solution be?

Many thanks,

Roger.

My aluminium mast is also two piece

It was common as longer lengths of aluminium was not available

Lift the mast and check there are no rivets or bolts where tha mast passes through the cabin top as mine corroded and caused the mast to fail

Just wondering if anyone else has come across a F40 CC with joins in the masts?
