F40 CC rig - help needed please

Posted by muckingabout (muckingabout@…>)

I am refitting a 1982 F40 centre cockpit ketch and am about to step
the masts and re-rig the lines. Does anyone have a deckplan or photos
of the original, or their own, sheeting arrangments please? If
possible please e-mail photos to vascodagama@… as the Yahoo
group folder is not always working. Many thanks of you can help, Ian
Macpherson

I have documentation of the original wraparound wishbone rigging
arrangements of the Freedom 40. If these are of any use to you I can
make paper copies and put them in the mail to you.

But perhaps somebody in the US (I suppose that’s where you are) can do
that too; I’ll have to send them from overseas.

Thanks for the quick reply, actually she is in
Littlehampton UK. I am re-rigging her Nonsuch/Wylie
hybrid style - it is really the deckplan, especially
the main sheeting arrangements we cannot quite
decipher from the fittings that are there. Would you
by any chance have these?

Ian,

Snail-mailing to the UK would be no problem for me. Funnily, I’m
currently rerigging my F44 in Wylie/Nonsuch hybrid style as well,
with wishbones and a single ply fully battened sail on a track! I’ve
collected lots of photo’s of Wylies, Tantons and Nonsuches. If you
wish, I can mail these to you.

I also have diagrams of the sheeting arrangements of the original
F40 with wraparounds. It’s quite straightforward, as far as I can
see on the drawings. Here is a description.

The mizzen sheet has a double or violin block on the boomkin and a
single block with deadeye on the boom end. (I think this is not much
purchase, so you either need a winch or get a tackle with more
purchase, e.g. a double/violin block on the boom end and a
double/violin block with deadeye on the boomkin.)

The mainsheet may or may not have a traveller (centercockpit
versions don’t I believe) and has the same sheeting arrangement as
the mizzen. My opinion about the purchase holds here as well. In
case of a traveller, there is an extra single bloch on a padeye on
deck, aft of the traveller, that guides the sheet from the boom end
(to the opening in the breakwater → this only applies to the aft
cockpit version) and aft to the coachroof edge.

If you need any help, just let me know.

Michel

Hmmm…I wish my boat was sooooo ready to sail that we could do a
trip to Littlehampton. Perhaps next year! First there is a long list
of jobs to do before we can sail. My goal is to be ready enough for
the 200 mile solo race in early October. Although I’m hesitant to go
singlehanding for four days in the end of season in a boat I barely
know.

Ian,

I found some photos of F40CC Vintage Champagne which was for sale in
France some time ago. You can see the sheeting arrangements.

However, I cannot attach files to the emailaddresses you gave us here
on yahoo, so I posted the photos on the other group called ‘Freedom-
44’. If you give me a signal that you found and downloaded the
photo’s, I can remove them again from that group.

Good luck, I hope this helps.

problems downloading the file from the Yahoo! site,
probably some Mac v. PC difficulty, so would it please
be possible to send it to me e-mail address
