On CNN, GMC is recalling 900,000 pickups because of tailgate cables
that snap:
“The spokesman said the galvanized steel cables were protected with a
plastic coating. But water has been found to get in the coating and
cause the cable to corrode and snap when the tailgate is down.”
I haven’t seen the cables, so their system could be completely
different, but it still points out a good reason to have lifelines
that are inspectible.
