At Constitution Marina, people are starting to button up their boats
and build their frames etc. (not me - I got a few hours of sailing in
on Nov. 5… what a treat This morning as I was standing on the dock
looking at the variety, I was a little surprised at the number of free-
standing rigs there were. Besides Bright Star, there’s a 50’ one-
design with a freestanding mast and self-tending boom. There are two
Nonsuch’s. There’s a Freedom 30 (which I never saw go out all season),
and what I believe is a Tanton 43 CK (wishbones… very pretty boat
from the outside), two Hunter 36’s with Free-standing aluminum, and
what I think is a Freedom 38 from Great Britain that just arrived this
past week. Interestingly, all have aluminum masts except the
Freedoms… but it’s kind of a nice ratio of free standing to wire-
rigged these days.
