Freedom 21 for Sale

Posted by Max Lent (maxlent@…>)

Hi All,

I just found this listing for a Freedom 21 for sale in Maine.

http://www.boatmaine.us/resource-sales-details.aspx?resID=4930

I don’t know anything about the boat, I just found the ad while
looking for something else.

Looks like a shoal draft model circa 1983. I’m not sure why a shoal draft option
was ever
engineered for this model, my guess is for easier trailering.

I’ve had a shoal draft since last year and love it. Drawing around 2 feet has some distint advantages around the Chesapeake. emmylou307 <emmylou307@…> wrote: Looks like a shoal draft model circa 1983. That is the boat I was talking about. I contacted the guy about his mast repair. Shoal draft is slower and performance upwind is even worse than full keel freedoms. But on the plus side its easier to trailer, it has a stepping mast ( can’t really do it alone but with a friend helping takes 10 mnts or so) and you can take it anywhere as far as draft. I have never worried about depth and with my lack of attention to detail its important  The owner answered me and his mast repair turned out to be very hard core compare to my idea of a fix. Seems like a friendly guy, to bad he is selling the boat. esx123

-Scott–I also have a shoal draft and sail on the Chesapeake. I’ve
been very pleased with the boat and agree that the shoal draft is
well suited to the bay. I’ve noticed that it is very difficult to
knock the boat down because as the rail nears the water, the boat
starts to skid on it’s side. Also there is plenty of tacking room on
the bay and the people are kind of laid back about when they arrive.
I sail out of the Piankatank River just south of the Rappahonock.
Where is your home port??

Oxford, Maryland. There is another F21 (fin keel) two slips down from me. So far, I haven’t even had the jib up except in the slip last weekend. Still soring through the gunmount and spinaker lines as mine doesn’t quite match the instrutions I’ve seen on the web site.chris montgomery <freedom.sailingguy@…> wrote: -Scott–I also have a shoal draft and sail on the Chesapeake.
