Freedom 21 gun-mount sleeve

Posted by pithwit (pithwit@…>)

Could someone send or post a close up of the gun-mount sleeve on a
Freedom 21. I appear not to have one at all.

I just filed a picture of the gun mount on my F-25. I believe it’s
the same for the F-21.

Thank you. It looks like it only covers part of the inside of the
“gun”, correct?

I am just about to post a sketch -lus 4 photos of my F21 gunmount for you - this is a UK-built F21 so the details may be different for USA built boats - anyway hope this helps?

Wilf,

The pictures and the sketch are nothing short of fantastic. Thanks!

I need to take your drawing and match it up to my gun mount. I know
that I have at least two holes as you indicate take nylon studs,
perhaps I have four.

I just spoke with Paul Dennis, who runs Warren River Boatworks in
Warren RI. He worked in the big boat division of the Freedom for 12
years. The Freedom 21 predated him a bit as it was produced under the
Pearson operation. He did not work on the 21 directly. He
recollected that sometimes the gun mount was lined with full a full
circle of PVC and other times they used plastic strips (like what I
think I see on another pic jsut posted).

If mine will take the nylon studs approach, this will be easier to
tackle than alternatives, I suspect.

Please see pictures of my Freedom 21 in the Photos section. I called
the boat The Glin but it still has the old name on it (Glorybound).

Note that the gunmount has three holes on each end, two on top and one
of the bottom. The diameter of the sleeve is 3 1/2. Apparently the
number of holes is a Uk vs. US difference.

Also note the way my fare leads currently look in the pulpit–not
quite right in my estimation.

Note that one can purchase self-adhesive UHMW PE tape through
woodworking tool purveyors (woodworker.com is one of them). The tape
is intended for use with table saws, jointers, etc. to make things
slide better while being pushed through the blades of these tools.
Sounds like this kind of stuff could help in letting the spinnaker
pole slide through the gun mount more easily. Herm
