I’ve relatively recently acquired my 1984 Freedom 21. Now I’m
renewing her registration but am not physically close enough to the
boat to easily verify an important point. Does the F21’s hull ID
usually end in a number or a letter? In my case, my current papers
say either “…M841” (M-eight-four-one) or “…M84I” (M-eight-four-
eye). It’s hard for me to tell which it was meant to be, and in my joy
at the outstanding shape of the boat when I purchased her, I
overlooked this point.
I appreciate any insight you might have on the typical F21 hull ID
format. Thanks much.

Thanks, great link. That makes perfect sense. Number on current
registration does look more like “…M84I” and the link info
supports this. I wanted to rule out a clerical error. (It would be
nice to have a '41 classic boat, but this one is definitely '84.)
Interesting that when the format changed, “A” became August rather
than January, just because the change went into effect in August, I
guess…

The prior one was for Stuart Marine (Rhodes 19, Mariners, etc.).
Virtually every boat model discussion forum/group will have some
sort of a HID “translation” page.
If anyone finds a link to the “official” (USCG or other) document,
please post it as well as notify Max Lent to add it to the
generic “links” page.
