How tight is this forestay set up on Freedom 28 cat-sloop? I’m in the
process of “assembling” a newly bought boat and find that the jibstay
is still slack after the turnbuckle is fully closed.

It is not supposed to be tight. On the F30, which is essentially the same, the instructions are to tighten only enough to remove sag. On these Freedoms, the forestay is only there to hold the jib; it has no role in holding up the mast. Thus, no need for it to be tight.

Should be quite loose, it is not designed to provide any support to the mast, just support the luff of the jib. Also if it is too tight, the end of the camberspar bangs into the mast when you talk.
