Freedom 32 bilge sump

I have found OD0RL0S Holding tank treatment to be an effective solution. My pump-out cycle is 7 days, + or – a day or two.
I have tried other products and systems with little success.

Lola,
let me suggest two Raritan products for your holding tank and head -
“C.P” (Cleans Potties) and “K.O.” (Kills Odors). They are a little bit
expensive compared to some of the other products, but if you put them
in spray bottles, they last a good long time.

Both of these are non-toxic, bioenzymatic cleaners that do an EXCELLENT
job of controlling boat odor, not just in the head but also in the
bilge or anywhere else you have an odor that is hard to control.
On “Glory” we have an Electro-Scan treatment unit, so we can’t use
anything that has chlorine or formaldehyde in it, and KO and CP fit the
bill perfectly. Because of the lack of formaldehyde, these are also
much easier on pumpouts and shore-based sewer systems.

Never thought about a strainer….where
about did you find yours? I been in the tight areas look for the hose directly
under the show but I have only found the end of the hose in the bilge then it
goes up and disappears under the shower.

I also meant to tell you to look for an inline
strainer from your
shower sump. It’ll be between the sump and the pump, and it’s
probably clogged. On Glory, with two of us showering every day, we
have to clean the strainer weekly to keep a good strong flow.

It’s also possible that you have a damaged membrane in the pump head.
They’re pretty straightforward to replace.

Of course there always the other simpler
way….train your bio rhythms to kick in as you walk to and from pass the yacht
club restroom and decommission the onboard. Essential that is what the prior
owner of my boat did. He had a dock behind his home in Ft Myers with no near
by pump out. So he decommissioned the head, taking all the piping and closed
up the tank. If anyone need to go to the head for #2 on his short trips he handed
them a bucket with a port-a-potty seat and plastic bag….that killed the
idea of wanting to go to the bathroom, number one was over the rail. I had to
put it all back together prior to bring the boat back to the Chesapeake.

We’ve been ising Wag Bags. They seem to work o.k. You can use ;em in any kind
of toilet, including a bucket. They have a powder inside that turns liquids into
solids and renders them more or less stable. Then you can dispose of them in the
trash or dumpster. I ordered a bunch of bags and some extra magic powder.

The company is Phillips Environmental Products, Inc.

Not cheap, but simple and pretty clean, so far…

Bob,
I don’t know where it would be on the 32. On the 45, there is a bench
seat in the shower stall. The seat lid lifts up to reveal the sump pump
and the head inlet and outlet seacocks. The strainer on mine is right
before the pump. It’s finger-tight, and we generally clean it out about
once a week.

It’d honestly be a little strange to design a shower sump without some
form of strainer, considering that you probably don’t want all that
hair going straight into the pump.
