1.) Is the deep draft(5’6")keel on the F32 encapsulated within the FG
hull or is it external and bolted on? Question is … can it be
shortened and bulbed to create a shoal draft of 4’6"? What is the
shoal depth on the F32-4"11"?
2.) Is the hull solid glass to the rail or cored above the waterline?
3.) Has anyone done this modification before?

The keel is bolt-on. The hull is cored with end-grain balsa. Consider
using a “Scheel Keel” if you reduce the keel’s
depth. Herm

- I spoke directly with Garry Hoyt about doing just that on my ‘84
F32. It can be done. You’d need to have the boat hauled and while
in a sling, cut off the desired amount of keel. Meanwhile, you’ll
need to scribe the curve of the keel, create a mold for the added
lead needed to make up for the ballast you’ll be losing, and find a
lead smelter who can fabricate a set of wings which would need to be
bolted on and faired. While not impossible, it’s quite an
undertaking and not cheap. In Garry Hoyt’s opinion, it would alter
the performance of the boat. I decided to sail for a season with the
existing 6’ keel and am glad that I didn’t make the change.
- The hull is cored to the keel

Good
Old Boat magazine had an article about someone who cut off the bottom of the
keel on his C&C and had two small wings cast by Mars and then bolted and
epoxied them onto the existing stub. Worked for him.
