This F32 on Ebay has me confused. The charity organization that has listed her claims that she’s a Hoyt and that the Mull was not a replacement until ‘87. Isn’t this boat a Mull considering her narrower beam and smaller displacement? She looks pretty worn out but at the right price she might be worth the effort. Didn’t the Hoyt have a 12’ beam?

That is a Hoyt 32, shallow draft. My first freedom, Dolphin, was like that only deep draft. The current bid seems quite low

It may be a caharitable organization but they are not very charitable.
It is final - you have to survey before bidding.
Deduct for a mast, an engine rebuild, and recoring here and there and
$15000 is not that cheap.

Are you being cautious about the mast…or do you know that it is “bad” (lightning strike, physical damage repair, known production run problems?). If you really have to deduct for a mast replacement…which no normal survey could assess, then all Freedoms would care the same deduction??? Am I right? An how would one survey a Freedom carbon mast to be sure that it is seaworthy??? Look forward to hearing responses.FargoMedium Al <hjulbyhavn@…> wrote: It may be a caharitable organization but they are not very charitable. It is

Being from a 32 the mast is so old that it will have the typical
circular cracks in the gelcoat. The experts suggest grinding the mast
down to the fiber and building up a new gellcoat. Some have gotten by
with replacing the paint with awlgrip - which might be sufficient over
hairline cracks - I don’t know if it is.
If the cracks are large enough to attrackt/retain water a complete
rebuild should be budgeted for.
Either way you budget at least $5.000 for a nice surface job, now or in
maybe 5 years, or a lot more if the cracks are deep. The yard need an
autoclave heater oven to match the factory quality for a major rebuild.
As I understanbd it a proper rebuild will make it good for
another “many” years.

Agreed – given the circumstances this is not so cheap. Equipment
is minimal, woodwork interior looks beaten up, sails??? A survey is essential.
Certainly you can buy an F32 in today’s market for less than $30M and have the
time etc to survey properly. We figured about $12M in sails, improvements, hull
work etc when we bought our 1984 Hoyt.
