I received an email from RonB without a valid address to respond to.
Here is the info.
Ron,
There was no way to reply to your message so I’m guessing at your
address and hope this gets to you. If it does please let me know.
I am very happy with my new sails (used 2 seasons). The sailmaker
was Win Fowler owner of Maine Sailing Partners 888-788-7245 www.mesailing.com.
I chose him because he had a lot of experience with a material called
cuben fiber which is what I wanted. Its one of the few materials with
essentially no downsides except cost (which is substantial).
Inaddition he had done the sails for the vendee globe racer that had
an unstayed mast so I knew he had experience for our boats.
Aside from the material (which lowered the weight by half and
increased the strength and shape holding) his design was great in
terms of maximum roach
(which I wanted ) twist etc. They are triradial. I had a lot of
detailed
requests and design goals and he was very patient.
I’m sure he felt the cuben fiber cost was overkill for an F-33 but I
wanted them to last (shape holding) and be light. I don’t like to
motor much so I figured investment in the sails is worth it to me.
But certainly its overkill if one is on a budget.
I’d certainly recommend him regardless of the material. I measured
everything myself and took digital pictures with a tape measure laid
out and sent them to him just in case. There was a local sailmaker
he was affiliated with that he sent out to confirm the measurements
anyway.
Apparently he designs and cuts sails for a number of small lofts and
they add the hardware for their customers.
Hope this helps and please let me know if you get this. I have pics
and if you want to talk by phone that’s fine too.
Not sure why it did not go through but I greatly appreciate the help.
I will give Win a call for more info and give you a call with some
questions.
Thanks
