Freedom 33 - Was the Tall Rig an option or a revision?

Posted by yottydotty (mikedavidwilliams@…>)

Was there a cut-off based on hull numbers between the standard and
tall rigs, or was it an option such that boats from a certain time
onwards could have either? (Of course owners could have changed
afterwards)

Or does it change with the rigs - e.g. centreboard short, fixed keel
tall etc?

I have searched through the forums but cant find any clues…

It was an option after a certain point. However
the tall rig was only available with the deeper keel. The shoal keel sailplan
was the same as for the centerboard. That’s my understanding. The tall
rig had about an extra 5 ft of height on the mainmast which according to the
freedom sailpan gave it an extra 35 sq ft of mainsail in the non wishbone
version of the sailplan.

Mine(#68) draws 4.5 ft,the mainmast is 45 total length. I’ve never questioned what configuration it was.

On the Freedom Sail plan the luff length
for the mainsail for the tall rig is 38” 9” and about 5’
less for the normal rig. So yours sounds like a “shoal” draft fixed
keel like mine.
