FREEDOM 33

Posted by oncidium45 (judith_hardy5468@…>)

We have recently purchased a Freedom 33- aft cabin 1979 sailboat. Hull
#2. Look forward to hearing from anyone with 33- freedom. I need a
mizzen mast as ours was damaged in a hurricane. Trying to find
original owner. I believe they lived in Virginia.Original name of boat
was Night Hawk.

Don’t know of any but normally the Main and Mizzen masts are identical except for the length
of the sail track (if you have sail track or location of the wishbone height if
you have the original rig). So a Mainmast would also work.

Hi, congrats! You bought a real nice boat; I had one for nine years.
For a new mast, try also Goetz Marine Technology, they made a new mast
for the previous owners of my F44. As far as I know, they are less
expensive than TPI.

Hello, Thanks for the information. We are enjoying our boat, although at present it is more work than cruising, which is what we prefer. Still looking for the original owner. Good sailing. I wouldn’t rely on it but an old
measurement I have written down for my mast length is 40’ 11.5”
Base diameter 8.5” top diameter 4.25”

I have a freedom blueprint for full batten
rig that shows the following (don’t know if they match my actual sails)
It doesn’t give mast heights
Main sail:
Normal Rig: Luff 33’ 11" Foot
16’ 0" Area 367’
Tall Rig: Luff 38’ 9" Leech 41’
4" Area 402’
Mizzen:
Luff 30’ 6" Leech 32’
6" Foot 11’ 0" Area 218’
Large Staysail
Luff 38’ 6" Leech 31’
6" Foot 24’ 0" Area 372’
Small Staysail
Luff 34’ 6" Leech 32’
0" Foot 8’ 6" Area 136’
For the tall rig main the numbers are
handwritten and no foot measurement is shown.

Here are some measurements I took of the
sail tracks:
Main track- 33’ 2"
track + 5.75" to top of gooseneck/boom (plus 4.75 " to top of top
pulley)
Mizzen Track - 29’
7" + 8.5" to top of gooseneck/boom (plus 4.75 " to top of top
pulley)
