I am considering putting a KIWI Carbon Fiber
feathering prop on my 1999 Freedom 35 hull #80 powered
by the Yanmar 3GM30. The prop is described in
Practical Sailor Vol. 33 No. 2 (Feb. 2007). Does
anyone have any experience with this prop?
Does anyone know the prop shaft taper, thread size and
keyway size on a Freedom 35. This info is defined on
Freedom Yachts Drawing P/N 19170?
Can anyone confirm that the gear box ratios are FWD
2.61:1 and REV. 3.16:1?
Thanks, Bill

Hi Bill:If you do a search for KIWI under MESSAGES below, you will find 38 references…including a few of mine which review this prop in detail. Glad to help further if you need,FargoBill Hixson <williamwhixson@…> wrote: I am considering putting a KIWI Carbon Fiber feathering prop on my 1999 Freedom 35 hull #80 powered by the Yanmar 3GM30. I just bought a Kiwi Prop this winter to replace the fixed two blade prop that came on my F-35. I have heard many good things about it so I though I’d give it a try. I also seriously considered a Gori folding three blade prop, but it was twice as expensive and I read several references on the wab about really poor customer serrvice. The Kiwi folks are very familiar with the 3GM30 engine/transmission in the F35. The shaft should be 1 inch in diameter and have a standard SAE taper. I have not yet put the prop on the boat, I just managed to get the old prop off yesterday. I’m hoping for more power, lots less drag while sailing and reduced vibration compared to the old two blade. I liked the idea that each blade is free to weather vane independantly since the F-35 has an asymmetric engine install.
The reduction ratio was stamped on my gear box, and I believe that your right, it’s 2.61:1. The pitch can be adjusted in the water, so I’m planning on changing it slightly if needed.
Art out
